A Hotter Temperature Equals Better Cleaning

Water temperature has an important role to play when it comes to washing clothes. While hot water does kill germs, it has to be over 212 degrees Fahrenheit to actually work. The hot water produced by domestic home heaters isn’t that hot at all. Apart from this, while hot water does help with stain removal, too hot water causes the fabrics to shrink. In some cases, this might damage the materials. At times, it’s better for the overall environment and your clothes to wash them at a lower temperature than 212 degrees Fahrenheit.

 

 

Contrary to common belief, adding more detergent to your laundry doesn’t mean your clothes will look squeaky clean. The opposite applies here. If you add more detergent than recommended, the machine will not mix and adequately wash all the detergent away, leaving some to stick to your clothes. This happens regularly when powder detergents are used. The detergent or soap left behind causes skin irritation and causes the color of your clothes to fade.

 

Hand Wash Items Should be Hand Washed Always

Here a little common sense goes a long way. Hand wash doesn’t mean that all clothes need to be washed by hand, and they can be put in the washing machine as well if you’re extra careful about it. For instance, if your washing machine has a delicate setting, then use that for clothes that need a hand-wash.
